This is the official statement of the City of Mati Local Government Unit relative to the unfortunate incident last Feb 17, 2018 wherein 38 members of the City of Mati contingent to the DAVRAA 2018 games were admitted at Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) after complaining of stomach pains, vomiting & loose bowel movement.

We would like to commend the LGU Davao City & Rescue 911 team for their quick response to the call for assistance. Our City of Mati DepEd Division medical team handled the situation well and managed to avert crisis situation. Putting the health & well-being of our delegates is a top priority hence decision to confine the victims for observation was made in collaboration with Davao City Health Office to ensure loss of fluids & electrolytes is replenished to prevent dehydration.

We are awaiting the official report from the Davao City Health Office to serve as our reference in the conduct of our own fact-finding inquiry to ascertain the cause & culpability of those responsible for the said incident and ensure this does not happen again under our watch in any future undertakings involving food preparation.

Finally, we would like to extend our sincerest thanks and appreciation to the Host, and first responders, the City Government of Davao City, headed by Mayor Sara Duterte, for expeditiously handling the incident.
